National Association of Firearm Instructors
The National Association of Firearm Instructors (NAFI) was founded on the belief that the
time of unprofessional  firearm instruction is past.

Modern firearms, firearm safety and shooting fundamentals can no longer be safely taught
by just anyone who happens to own a firearm.  Firearms, like many tools, are complex when
it comes to teaching safe handling, safe shooting, and correct shooting fundamentals.
Although millions of gun owners believe they have the skills to teach others to shoot, the
truth is, thousands of new shooters are exposed to firearms incorrectly by spouses,
children and parents.  The result - a bad experience leading to a dislike of firearms.

There are so many myths, rumors and false assumptions regarding the correct way to
shoot a firearm, that the only way the public can be sure they are not getting old folk tale
shooting instruction is by using a professional shooting instructor,  The
National
Association of Firearm Instructors
was formed to further that goal.

Now is the time of the professional instructor who is trained to teach firearms using modern
methods of instruction geared to his or her specific audience.  Whether it be civilian, military,

(NAFI) is a non-profit organization formed to unite under one standard and with one voice,
firearm instructors throughout the country.  Our objective is to provide support, guidance,
education and curriculum support in dealing with firearm safety and training issues on the
local, state, and national level.

Our current goals are:

  • Give the firearm instructor a professional organization to share ideas, get comments
from, and communicate with other instructors.

  •  Promote shooting in a positive light to the non shooting public through a code of
conduct and guidelines for dealing with students, and the non shooting public.

  • Be a knowledge repository and library for all shooting disciplines and make this
knowledge available to all firearm instructors.

  • Evaluate new and old techniques of shooting and instruction to debunk myths and
    test new theories.

  • Let the public at large know that there is a professional organization for Civilian,
Military, Police, Hunter’s Education, 4H, Defensive, and sport shooting instructors that
will uphold standards of conduct for its members and the training they provide.

We are proud to bring the National Association of Firearm Instructors  to you and welcome
your support as we continue this monumental undertaking for the future of firearms
instruction.

The National Association of Firearm Instructors is the result of the work of  volunteer

The above individuals are keenly aware of the need for an umbrella organization for
professional firearm instructors to socialize, consult, learn from and share with others in the
field, the knowledge they have acquired during their careers.

Many more professional trainers are being recruited for all shooting disciplines. (Please
contact us if you believe you have the professional experience with Rifles, Handguns or
Shotguns to be on our council.)

                               Future Goals

"There is no future for firearms if we in the present do not pass on the knowledge and love we have to
the next generation..."

In the future we will be providing instructor training, training materials and firearm classes.
However, we recognize the need for diversity in firearm training and understand that when
it comes to training and/or shooting, one size does not fit all.  So, in addition to our own
classes, we will be reviewing, amending, improving, approving, and accrediting courses in
firearm instruction developed by you, the instructor, that fits your student's needs. We also
hope to accredit shooting facilities that incorporate and abide by the Code of Conduct and
Common National Standards

Whether for sport, marksmanship, self defense, concealed carry, or law enforcement, NAFI
wants to ensure the quality of firearm training by allowing professional instructors, who
adhere to our code of conduct and standardized safety rules to use the NAFI name,
materials and logo to designate their status as a top quality firearms trainer.

Instructors, coaches, trainers and anyone interested in the future of shooting and the
shooting sports, of all shooting disciplines and all aspects of firearm related education, are
encouraged to apply for membership and participate in the National Association of Firearm
Instructors.
